Dress for Success

So you want to be in Sales do you. Then you need to look the part. Look, I get it. This day and age it is all about working from home and casual Fridays….or casual Wednesday through Friday it seems. But sales is different. Sales is a mindset. You need to feel good about yourself and confident when you go into a sales call. And that starts with how you dress. So why is so important you ask. Well, besides the fact that you will feel better about yourself many of you will be calling on strangers for the first time. And one of you main objectives is to get that prospect to gain your trust so they will listen to you about what you are selling. Have you ever went to a store to buy something and a sales person comes up to you and they look disheveled? Their hair is a mess and their clothes are a mess too. You don’t really take them seriously do you. And you know what? They may super smart and very good at what they do but if they don’t look good and/or smell good then you will not buy from them. That is why you need to step it up and dress for success. Now, I’m talking about going out and buying high end clothes and spending a fortune. For many of you that are just starting out you will not have that kind of money to do that. But you don’t need a lot of money. You just need some nice clothes that fit you well and that you feel confident in. Maybe go to TJMaxx and a few nice pair of slacks. Guys are a little easier because with a few pair of nice pants you can mix and match some nice shirts with only a couple pairs of slacks and you are ready to go. However, make sure you have some nice shoes! Shoes are important. You may look great right up until the shoes but trust me, people will look at your shoes. So the bottom line is you are dressing up for both your prospects and yourself. And if you are having trouble picking some things out find a guy or a girl that you trust and ask them for some help. With something this important I bet you can find a volunteer. So let’s get shopping!
