Money Motivated

People ask me all of the time if it is selfish to be money motivated. And my answer…absolutely not! If I am interviewing someone for a sales job and I ask them what motivates them and why they want to be in sales, being money motivated better be in their top 2 answers. I’m in sales because I want to make money. It drives me to be better. Not everyone can succeed in sales because they don’t have that drive make money. Take teachers for instance. Teachers are not money motivated. They have a passion for teaching kids which is fantastic! We need them now more than ever. There are a million things that motivates people but money is it for me. When I first started out in sales I saw what a sales career could afford and I wanted those same things. I wanted to be able to afford nice cars, nice clothes, take trips when I wanted to. And as I got older I wanted to be able to give my daughters a nice home and be able to do things with them. Does that make me selfish? I don’t think so. It is just a mindset and once you have it you just have it. Now, keep in mind being money motivated and being arrogant about having money are 2 completely different stories. If you have read my articles on this site you will know that I am not a fan of arrogant people. And unfortunately, many people with money are super arrogant. But being money motivated doesn’t mean that is who you are. It just means that you want to be able to afford things that maybe you would be able to in a different career. Think about all of your friends or family. And ask yourself why you think they do what they do for a living. I bet as you are thinking about it you will find yourself thinking “oh yeah…I see why they do that” or “I could see them doing that if they wanted to”. Everyone’s personality is different. But here is the truth. If money does not motivate you then sales is not for you. So the next time someone asks you why you are in sales you can answer the same way I do. Because I am good at it and I like to make money!
